Prop 19 Frees Up Inventory
While Providing Tax Savings for Seniors, Homeowners with Disabilities, and Wildfire Victims

Proposition 19 fully went into effect on April 1, 2021

As part of the Prop 19 implementation process, the State Board of Equalization (BOE) has created several new forms and made them available to all county assessors across the state. These forms will enable a homeowner to claim the tax savings and advantages under Prop 19. But as of yet, not every assessor has incorporated the forms into their systems and made them publicly available. But it is anticipated that all assessors will do so shortly. In the meantime, it is important to realize that the tax savings under Prop 19 DO NOT depend upon the immediate availability of these forms. The short delay in filing a claim for tax benefits under Prop 19 will not impair the right of a homeowner to tax savings under Prop 19.

The Opportunity Is Now

Proposition 19 fully went into effect on April 1, 2021, protecting millions of older homeowners, homeowners with severe disabilities, and victims of wildfire or natural disaster.

As older homeowners move to senior housing, retirement communities, or condos, or downsize to smaller homes, more homeownership opportunities will open up in communities throughout the state each year for renters, young families, and first-time homebuyers.

Prop 19 allows victims of wildfire or natural disaster to transfer the property tax base of their damaged house to a replacement home anywhere in California.
